How Therapy Works

From first contact to lasting change

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Here's what the process looks like.

Step 01

Free Consult

A 15-minute call to talk through where you are, what you're looking for, and whether we're a good fit — no pressure, no intake forms yet.

Step 02

Intake Session

A full 50-minute session to understand your history, patterns, and goals. This is where we build the foundation for your treatment plan.

Step 03

Ongoing Therapy

Weekly or biweekly sessions using evidence-based approaches — CBT, ACT, motivational interviewing — tailored to your specific situation.

Step 04

Sustained Recovery

As you build stability, sessions taper and you leave with the tools, insight, and relapse-prevention skills to maintain recovery long-term.

Clinical Focus

What we work on together

Every person's relationship with pornography is shaped by different factors. Therapy meets you where you actually are.

Pornography & Compulsive Use

Understanding the cycle, identifying triggers, and building new responses — using CBT and motivational interviewing frameworks.

Relationship Repair

Working through the trust rupture pornography use causes — individually or with a partner — to rebuild honesty and intimacy.

Shame & Self-Worth

Addressing the shame cycle that keeps the behavior going — not through judgment, but through self-understanding and acceptance-based work.

Urge Management

Practical, evidence-based techniques including urge surfing, distress tolerance, and mindfulness to interrupt the automatic response.

Accountability & Boundaries

Building internal motivation for change and external accountability structures that hold — not just rules that feel like punishments.

Family & Identity

Exploring how pornography use intersects with your values, faith, cultural background, and how you want to show up for the people you love.

Common Questions

Before your first session

A few things people usually want to know up front.

Do you accept insurance?
I accept several major insurance plans. The easiest way to check is through the ZocDoc booking link above — it verifies your coverage in real time before you book. If you have questions about a specific plan, you're welcome to reach out directly.
Are sessions in-person or virtual?
All sessions are conducted via telehealth — secure, HIPAA-compliant video. Many clients find the privacy of a virtual session especially helpful when working through something as sensitive as pornography use.
What states can you see clients in?
I'm currently licensed in Texas, New Jersey, Utah, and Iowa. If you're in another state, I'm happy to discuss options or refer you to a qualified therapist in your area.
I'm not sure I have an "addiction" — is therapy still for me?
Absolutely. Many people I work with aren't certain how to label what they're experiencing — they just know something feels out of control, or that it's affecting their relationship, their self-respect, or their daily life. You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from therapy.
Do you offer couples or partner sessions?
Yes. Pornography use often creates significant harm in relationships. I offer sessions that include a partner when that's appropriate for the work — we'd discuss this during the consult or intake.
What's the difference between therapy and the Honestly Grounded program?
The Honestly Grounded program is a self-directed educational resource: structured modules, worksheets, and peer community. Individual therapy is a licensed clinical service with personalized treatment planning, HIPAA protections, and direct clinical care. Many people find it helpful to do both, but they serve different purposes.
